YouTube Playlist Not Downloading? 7 Fixes

By YTMultiDownloader · Updated October 26, 2026

When a playlist refuses to download, the cause is almost always one of seven things — and most take under a minute to fix. Work through this list from the top; it is ordered by how often each problem actually happens.

1. The link has no list= in it

The most common cause by far. A video link like youtube.com/watch?v=abc is not a playlist; the tool needs the list= parameter. Open the actual playlist (or tap the playlist title under the player) and copy that link.

2. It’s a Mix (list=RD…), not a real playlist

Links whose ID starts with RD are YouTube’s auto-generated radio mixes: infinite, personalised, different every time. No tool can fetch "all" of an endless list. Fix: add the songs you want to a normal playlist in your account and use that link.

3. The playlist is private

Private means only your logged-in account can see it — a web tool cannot, by design. If the playlist is yours, change its visibility to unlisted, download, and switch it back if you like.

4. The first click opened an ad tab

On the first click, a sponsor page may open in a new tab. That is not a failure: close the tab, click the same button again, and the second click delivers the download. If an ad blocker freezes the button entirely, allow the site once and retry.

5. The browser silently blocked the download

Chrome sometimes blocks "multiple automatic downloads". Watch the address bar for a blocked-download icon and choose Always allow. On iPhone, confirm Safari’s "Do you want to download?" dialog — it is easy to miss.

6. Storage or connection ran out mid-file

Half-finished MP4s that will not play usually mean the phone filled up or Wi-Fi dropped. Free space (1080p needs roughly 1.5 GB per hour of video), delete the broken file and download it again — only the failed file, not the whole batch.

7. Specific videos in the list fail

If the playlist loads but certain items fail: deleted or region-blocked videos, age-restricted content and live streams in progress cannot be fetched. The rest of the playlist still works — skip the dead entries.

Still stuck?

Try the basics in order: reload the page, try another browser, try Wi-Fi instead of mobile data. If a playlist that should work still fails, tell us the playlist link and we will look at it. For the full download walkthrough, start from how to download a YouTube playlist.
